The UK still has a shortfall of 365,000 charging posts since the "2035 fuel car ban"

The report shows that by 2030, the UK will need 400,000 public charging stations to meet the 2030 ban on new conventionally-fuelled vehicles, and only 35,000 have been built so far. In other words, in the next 10 years, the number of charging piles built in the UK must increase from about 7,000 per year in the past three years to 35,000 per year.

February 26, according to foreign media reports, according to the UK February 2 report, the British "policy exchange" think tank released a report on the UK charging pile shortage, said the UK has built the number of electric vehicle charging stations, lagging behind the number of fuel car ban previously required.

The report shows that by 2030, the UK will need 400,000 public charging posts to meet the 2030 ban on new conventionally-fuelled vehicles, while only 35,000 have been built so far. This means that the number of charging posts built in the UK will have to increase from around 7,000 per year in the last three years to 35,000 per year in the next 10 years.

In February last year, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a ban on the sale of all new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars from 2035.

In addition, the Policy Exchange think-tank says that there are many "charging blind spots" in small towns and rural areas of the UK. So they suggest that the government should contract out to the private sector and encourage them to build charging posts in areas where facilities are scarce. They also call for local authorities in the UK to provide dedicated funding for transport and to set up teams to promote the construction of charging stations in residential areas.

In the foreword to this report, Simon Clark, a Conservative MP and former Minister for Regional Growth and Local Government, writes: "Fuel car drivers can travel hundreds of miles by car knowing that they will encounter a petrol station every so often, but new energy vehicles do not yet have such facilities. Some areas have naturally developed impressive coverage of charging posts, such as central London, but this is not the case in large swathes of the country."

It was also reported in July last year that the UK government had said it planned to increase the number of electric vehicles on UK roads to 30 million over the next 20 years. But the number of existing charging posts and the rate at which they are being built are still far from that target.
