Dutch company develops new charging device that can automatically recycle charging devices

According to reports in the media, the Dutch charging equipment manufacturer Q-Reel is developing a new "semi-automatic charging device". The charging device will further enhance the service system by allowing the user to leave the vehicle when it is being charged, and when the vehicle is fully charged, the charging device can automatically recycle the charging cable without the user having to do so manually. In addition the user leaving the vehicle will be able to check the charging status and progress at any time via the Q-Reel app.

According to the company, the charging device is not a vertical pile, but a 'signboard' like structure that can be hung on the wall and looks very small. A reel will be used to store the charging cable and when the vehicle is approached, the reel will open and the user can take the charging gun to the vehicle and charge it. When charging is complete, the reel will automatically work to retrieve the charging gun without the need for manual operation. This tape measure-like working principle allows the user to leave the vehicle once the charging has been manually switched on, without having to stay next to the car at all times, and the charging vehicle can stop charging when fully charged, avoiding overcharging and reducing other safety hazards.

In addition, the company says it will also launch an app called Q-Reel, which will allow users to set preferences for charging times, percentage of charge, etc. to control the cost and expense of charging. On the other hand, the Q-Reel charging device will also be able to monitor activity around the car via a camera, recognise designated license plates and authorise them, enhancing the security of the charging device.

Although Q-Reel currently has a clear idea of how this charging device will work, the company is still in the crowdfunding phase, so this charging device has not yet completed its final design, nor does it have a sample yet, and none of the relevant parameters have been determined yet. However, according to Q-Reel's plans, the charging device is scheduled for production at a price of €499 and deliveries are expected to start in January 2021.
