BMW plans to build 360,000 electric vehicle charging stations in China by 2021 in a bid to gain a bigger share of the world's largest electric vehicle market, the company said on June 3.
In addition, by the end of 2022, BMW plans to build 100 "three-in-one" charging stations with photovoltaic, charging and energy storage.
According to BMW's website, by the end of 2020, BMW's public charging network will have covered more than 300 cities across China, with over 300,000 national standard charging piles dynamically connected. With 360,000 charging piles in place this year, BMW will double the size of its charging piles.
The BMW charging network will cover more than 50,000 km of highways through access to the State Grid of China's "10 vertical, 10 horizontal and 2 ring" high-speed intercity fast charging network.
The BMW product range is also expanding, with BMW planning to launch 12 all-electric BMW and MINI models in China by the end of 2023, with all-electric vehicles expected to account for 25% of total national sales.
